When one has more than one dog one tends to lose touch with the individual personality of one another. It’s very true in my case that i’ve tended to take Mia for granted.
Recently when Mia was having her periods, if time permitted it offered me with a chance to walk them separately. A great eye opener for me to see how different they are ?
Normally while we’re walking; Magic is the one who leads the walk, Mia because she is on a shorter leash ‘would be walking alongside me & whenever there is a potential conflicting situation arising its Magic who takes the lead in taking the conflict to its logical conclusion. He is intolerant to any nonsense & also marks his path vehemently.
While walking with Magic his leash is usually on my wrist & while walking with Mia her leash is on just a finger……. do you sense the difference ? In other words walking with Magic is eventful, whereas walking with Mia is like a nice stroll in the park.
Magic; because he walks in front of me, i can pre-empt most of his “devious plans”…. while with Mia since she is just behind me it’s not so easy to pre-empt. If she decides to charge at something it is usually from a very “still” position & before one realises she would’ve hit the bull’s-eye. Whereas with Magic i can see him licking him lips in anticipation for a scrap.
If i let them loose off the leash individually; now Magic is a bit lost, then i need to run after him & chase him to get him into his mood. Whereas in the case of Mia, she just wanders around sniffing this, that & the other. If they are loose together…. well hallelujah !! There is such stark differences in how a male caravan hound responds to a situation as compared to a female caravan. One day while walking Mia managed to get off her leash….. i let out an unusual loud command saying MIA SIT… & she actually sat down. Would Magic do that ? No way. He will eventually come back to me….. but in the interim many things can happen which i wouldn’t want to see or hear. In the farm they are like a team responding to each other beautifully, but here in our apartment the city its Mia who is the watch dog, whereas Magic is quite chilled out & the only thing which gets him going is the canine barks downstairs.
Anyway enough rambling & its been a while since our Bunty & Babli has had a bath…… so today morning they both had a great rub down with coconut oil & a good shower. This is how they chill in the lobby enjoying the sunshine & drying themselves…
Peace & love
