One of the positive things which has happened in the last couple of weeks is that Magic happily jumps into our car. When he sees/smells the car keys in my hand, he knows it & he will walk towards our car. Compare that to a scenario till two weeks back when even going near our car was not possible. He would bolt, keep a distance & run/walk off in the opposite direction. There have been instances when i had to lift him & put him inside & then of course within a few minutes he would be howling & probably if any one heard him they might think that: poor dog is in pain & we are torturing him or something
Last two weeks we also took him for a lot of short drives, that seemed to have made the difference. For a start he has stopped howling. But a bit of whining he does. But that is any day tolerable than the howling. Motion sickness seems to be a bane with Caravan Hounds & they do puke after a while. So the key to it, according to deba is: feed the dogs at least 2 hours before the drive & no water is to be given. So yesterday we did that & saw the difference. Plus he likes to have the window open, so that he can put his head outside, feel the breeze & soak in all the smells.
While on the farm, one can see he is a different Magic… My co-worker Prakash was keen to take him for a walk. ‘Though, he very quickly realised the difference in walking a karwani as compared to walking any other dog. The hill behind our land has a water hole & that is the point where Prakash gets our stock of “hunt”…..(btw Prakash & his best mate Shankar are shikari’s), so they have been thrilled for a while with the fact that Magic … the shikari is going to be on the farm… to accompany them, while they go hunting.
Prakash’s sons were also quick to make friends with Magic, in fact the youngest son Amol has a very good feel with animals. Poonam & Vimal were too shy to come into the frame, ‘though Magic shared very good vibes with them.
But from the time we reached the farm & till we left Magic was eyeing our chickens. When we were having lunch i had tied him & some chicks must have come close by & he leapt for the kill, ripping off his collar in the process …..
The work for our chicken coop has started…. Then we can experiment with one of deba’s suggestion i.e: to feed the chickens in front of Magic, so that he knows they are ours. Then he will stop going for it…. may be he will get protective of our hens also.
From some one who ran away afar seeing us get into our car & now he is happily jumping inside….change does do happen. So one day he will realise that the chickens are not to be harmed.
More of that later !!
The big news is that Magic is finally getting a companion….. Mia, she will be taking a long bus journey from Dhule tonight & will be reaching us tomorrow morning.
A new chapter begins !!
